Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program at Kaskaskia College provides a comprehensive foundation in child development and the principles and practices of early childhood education.

Across degree and certificate options, students study coursework such as activity programming, health and safety for young children, observation and assessment, and the relationship between the child, family, and community. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for immediate employment in early childhood education settings while also supporting continued academic and professional advancement.

The Associate in Applied Science degree prepares students for entry-level positions in early childhood education centers and serves as a pathway for career growth. The program aligns with Illinois credentialing standards and enables students to earn the Level 4 credential through ExceleRate Illinois.

Certificate options allow students to pursue focused credentials based on their goals. The Level 3 Certificates support attainment of the Level 3 ExceleRate credential. The Level 2 Certificates lead to the Level 2 ExceleRate credential. Students intending to transfer are encouraged to consult with an Academic Advisor or the ECE Program Coordinator to ensure seamless progression and transfer alignment.

The coursework in these programs can be completed 100% online, with some in-person requirements for field experiences, observations, and the practicum.
