General Education


The General Education (GenEd) curriculum at Kaskaskia College is considered to be a vital component of degree programs as it provides students with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attributes required for success in their endeavors beyond their time at the college. KC has established GenEd Student Learning Outcomes that define expectations for what students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of the curriculum.

General Education SLOs and Curriculum Map

The Kaskaskia College General Education Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are primarily aligned to the academic areas as indicated on the core degree sheets found in the Catalog for each degree program. Courses listed for each area are the primary means for which degree-seeking students achieve corresponding GenEd learning outcomes. Instructors teaching these courses are expected to offer an opportunity to achieve the aligned SLO(s) in their course and collect/submit any required data for the purpose of assessment of student learning.

General Education Assessment

General Education Student Learning Outcomes are established to be effective for a duration of five years, during which assessment student learning data are assessed in accordance with a define assessment schedule. This schedule ensures that each GenEd SLO is analyzed at least twice during a five-year period. Analysis of GenEd SLOs and any actions regarding improvement to student learning is documented in an assessment report. Assessment data are collected in each course aligned with a GenEd SLO every time a course is taught.
