This certificate provides students with additional skills necessary for employment in the carpentry trade. The courses within this certificate will focus on the skill-set needed for various interior finish work from baseboard, casing, and chair rails to setting cabinets, doors and various hardware use to complete finish work. Students will be introduced to trim and finish work that involves producing built-in book cases, setting newel posts, balusters, and stair railings, and other cabinetry encountered by finish carpenters. Students also construct cabinetry thereby developing a skill-set of the operations encountered in cabinet shop using precision stationary wood working machines. Students will meet OSHA safety requirements needed on every construction job site as well as an understanding of construction materials available to modern builders.
