Hours per week:  [Maximum 10 hours per week]

 

Function

General organizing and cleaning of laboratory/prep areas as well as equipment.  Washing of glassware, test tubes and other items.

In addition to yearly inventory, help organize, label and order laboratory supplies.

Duties may include but are not limited to preparing media, working with microbes, performing calculations for solution preparations and working with equipment such as autoclaves, distillation apparatus, pH meters, scales, fume hoods, pipets, hot plates, various glassware and other materials.

Student should be well versed in laboratory safety, be able to work independently, conduct themselves in a safe and professional manner, wear appropriate protective equipment/clothing and familiarize themselves with standard operating procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned pertaining to general laboratory, clerical activities and possible research pertaining to STEM fields.

 

Position Description

Working in a laboratory environment while practicing laboratory safety.  Support faculty members with laboratory preparations, organization, inventory, ordering and clean-up in the areas of biology, microbiology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, botany, zoology, geology, physics and health sciences.

  • Familiar with OSHA standards, chemical hygiene plans, and standard operating procedures
