Custodial Student Worker

Hours per week:           Up to 20 hours per week.

Function

Student must be able to perform limited facets of Custodial work.  Custodial functions are performed in an area that includes offices, classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and all other types of working environments found at an academic institution. 

Organizational Relationship

Student reports to the Coordinator of Custodial Services, who reports to the Director of Physical Plant, who reports to the President of the College.

Essential Functions:

 

  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned areas are cleaned and maintained according to College standards.
  • Preform daily assigned duties.  Duties included, but are not limited to:
    • Mopping, trash collection and dumping at local dumpster stations, restroom cleaning, and sanitizing, mixing and hauling of diluted and non-diluted cleaning solutions.
  • Preforming set-ups for campus activities.

Other Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This is a non-supervisory position.

Supervisory Controls

This position is expected to work independently with minimum supervision as needed.  Assistance is available as needed from the Director of Physical Plant and the Coordinator of Custodial Services.

Guidelines

This position requires strict adherence to all personal protective policies and procedures and required by equipment operation. Employee is required to follow all local, State, and Federal laws and all Kaskaskia College policies and procedures.  Position is also expected to adhere to and promote College core values of compassion, honesty, respect, fairness, and responsibility.

Personal Relationships

This position requires frequent interaction with various facets of the campus community. There will be frequent contact with students, faculty, staff, contractors and the general public.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties are performed indoors. Heavy lifting is required in handling floor and carpet cleaning equipment (up to 40 pounds), along with using other custodial equipment that includes, mops and brooms, but is not limited to various cleaning equipment. There is a limited exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals.
