Function
Responsible for providing tutoring in specific subject areas that aids student development plus overcomes obstacles to classroom success and expands effective learning strategies and study skills. May include basic technology assistance as related to the academic tasks.
Organizational Relationships
This position reports to the TRiO Learning Specialist; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; plus specific instructions regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Qualifications for Position
required:
- Bachelors degree in a related subject area/field required.
- Possess proficiency in the subject matter.
- Proficiency can be determined by a combination of education, training and experience.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged students.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
Preferred: Community college experience plus exposure to working with low-income, academically disadvantaged populations preferred.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement individualized tutoring strategies for each referred participant.
- Ability to organize and plan for tutoring sessions at students convenience and level.
- Assists students in completion and review of homework assignments and models development of metacognitive strategies.
- Assists students in preparing for exams and models appropriate study strategies.
- May provide support in research strategies, documentation styles, grammar, syntax, vocabulary, technology expertise, etc.
- Establishes and maintains accurate records of student performance and progress.
- Completes assigned training activities.
Performs related duties as assigned
