The Human Resource Generalist will assist with general office administration functions and facilitating human resources daily office functions. This position will be the first point of contact for the Human Resources Department. They will be responsible for applying business knowledge and human resources expertise to the ever-changing world of higher education. This position plays a key role in the success of the College by providing excellent customer service, overseeing the recruitment, and onboarding processes, organizing documentation and HR best practices while facilitating a positive relationship between personnel and College leadership, students, and the general public.
This position reports to the Director of Human Resources, who reports to the College President.
Qualifications for Position
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or closely related field
Minimum of two years experience in Human Resources or closely related field is preferred.
Strong written and communication skills
Must be a team player, energetic and possess willingness to learn
Must be detail and task-oriented
Excellent organization, planning, and presentation skills.
Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations
Takes initiative and self-starter; Ability to work independently and with a team;
Prioritization, and troubleshooting skills
Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
Oversee the recruiting and employee onboarding process in collaboration with hiring managers
Coordinate hiring committee calendars and book rooms for interviews, assist with interviews, and perform background and reference checks
Utilizes various resources to maintain a talent pool including job boards and social media
Support candidates throughout the recruitment process to ensure an excellent candidate experience
Responsible for scheduling and completion of new hire paperwork and onboarding for all employees, as well as updating information in the College’s HRIS
Ensure benefits information is entered accurately into appropriate systems and processed in a timely manner for new employees and exiting employees.
Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation, and maintains I-9 files
Scheduling, reviewing, and oversight of employee offboarding process
Maintain records of personnel-related data (payroll, personal information, leave, etc.) in both paper and the database and ensure all employment requirements are met.
Standard clerical duties for the HR department (phone and computer use, fielding inquiries, filing, ensuring smooth operations at the front desk).
Respond to unemployment claims in a timely manner
Provide support and assistance to the Federal Student Worker process
Provides a positive customer service experience by answering employee requests and questions in a timely and professional manner.
Assist with the creation of the weekly HR meeting agenda and capture minutes
Cross train with other HR personnel and develop a clear understanding of all duties and responsibilities relating to HR
Other duties as assigned by the HR staff.
Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the mission of Kaskaskia College.
Supervise student workers as necessary
Human Resources Generalist is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision and frequent interruptions. Consultation as necessary is available with the Human Resources Department.
Staff member is expected to follow all College policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and federal laws. Staff member is also expected to adhere to and foster development of Kaskaskia College core values of compassion, honesty, respect, responsibility, and fairness.
Staff member can expect to have frequent contact with students and other College employees and will have frequent contact with community.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $42,500-$47,500 annually and fringe benefits eligible.
