Kaskaskia College Trustee Laura Wedekemper Named ICCTA Treasurer; President George Evans Advances to Vice President of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents

Kaskaskia College is proud to celebrate the statewide leadership appointments of two of its most dedicated representatives, reflecting the college's continued commitment to excellence and advocacy in higher education.

Trustee Laura Wedekemper has been elected Treasurer of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) for the 20252026 year. A steadfast member of the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees, Wedekemper has served in several leadership roles, including Secretary and as a regional ICCTA Representative. As Treasurer, she will oversee the association's financial operations and serve as a key member of its executive committee, supporting the mission and legislative goals of Illinois' 45 community colleges.

In addition, Kaskaskia College President George Evans has been named Vice President of the Illinois Community College Presidents' Council. Evans recently completed a term as Secretary/Treasurer and now enters the second year of a four-year leadership track that will include terms as President and Past President.

"This is a significant opportunity to continue amplifying the voice of rural and downstate colleges in statewide conversations," Evans said. "Serving on the Executive Council is a very humbling opportunity and a responsibility that I do not take lightly. Serving on the Council allows me to advocate not only for Kaskaskia College but for all 45 Illinois community colleges as we work together to advance student success, college affordability, and local and regional growth. I consider it one of my essential duties to help educate the general public on how vital the community college system is to our state and local workforce and our regional population centers."

The Illinois Council of Community College Presidents Council is a collaborative body composed of presidents from the states 45 public community colleges. The Council works closely with the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and the ICCTA to shape statewide policy, funding strategies, and academic initiatives. Council members meet regularly to address the most pressing issues impacting the community college system.

"These appointments are a testament to the leadership and respect that Kaskaskia College commands across the state," said KC Board Chair Bill Hawley. "Both Trustee Wedekemper and President Evans are strong advocates for higher education and will represent our institution with great distinction."
