Kaskaskia College Hosts ICCTA Southwest Regional Meeting

Centralia, IL—Kaskaskia College recently welcomed trustees, presidents, and statewide leaders to the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) Southwest Regional Meeting. The gathering brought together representatives from across southern Illinois to share insights, address regional and statewide priorities, and strengthen the voice of community colleges in the state.

The meeting opened with remarks from Kaskaskia College President George Evans and KC Board Chairman Bill Hawley, followed by a welcome from Jim Beasley, ICCTA Southwest Region Chair and KC Trustee. Attendees participated in a series of strategic updates delivered by key figures in Illinois' community college leadership.

ICCTA Executive Director Jim Reed underscored the importance of regional collaboration, stating,

"ICCTA's regional meeting structure is vital to building unity in all parts of the state. Our colleges in southern Illinois are geographically distant. Therefore, it is essential to have an opportunity to meet and share success stories, discuss challenges, and build relationships between presidents and trustees. This enables the community college system to advocate for the betterment of the students we serve effectively."

Kaskaskia College President George Evans echoed this sentiment, adding,

"Kaskaskia College was honored to host this important gathering. Meetings like these provide a forum for real dialogue and regional cooperation that strengthen our shared mission. When community colleges work together, we amplify our ability to serve students, support workforce development, and uplift our communities."

Bishop Wayne Dunning, President of ICCTA; Dr. Brian Durham, Executive Director of the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB); and President Evans, representing the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents (ICCCP), provided additional updates. Leaders from Illinois Eastern Community Colleges, Lewis and Clark Community College, and Southwestern Illinois College also offered insights into their local initiatives and shared efforts.

The meeting concluded with remarks from Laura Wedekemper, KC Trustee and ICCTA Southwest Region Co-Chair, who thanked attendees for their dedication to advancing the mission of community colleges throughout the region.
