Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approves purchase upgrade of Ellucian system

August 23, 2022

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met Monday, August 22, 2022, for its regular monthly meeting. Board members included Bill Hawley (Odin), Linda Stover (Centralia), Laura Wedekemper (Shattuc), Louis Kalert (Centralia), and Alyssa Lurkins (Student Trustee). Jeff Brown (Greenville), Bryan Holthaus (Carlyle), and Jim Beasley (Centralia) were absent.

The board approved the transfer of an estimated $50,000 in investment earnings from the college’s working cash fund to the education fund for fiscal year 2023. The board decided it was in the best interest of the college to continue the practice of transferring investment income to assist in properly funding college operations and maintaining adequate financial reserves.

The college's FY23 tentative budget will be on display for public review Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., in the office of the Vice President of Administrative Services, AD 211, Administration Building, 27210 College Road, Centralia, IL 62801 for a minimum of 30 days, beginning no later than July 28, 2022, through September 16, 2022. It will also be available on the Kaskaskia College website, https://www.kaskaskia.edu/about-kc/consumer-information. A public hearing is scheduled for September 26, 2022, at 6:15 p.m., before the regular KC Board of Trustees meeting.
The board approved the purchase upgrade for the college’s current Ellucian system to Ellucian SaaS in the amount of $512,893 plus $614,164 (HEERF funds) for a total of $1,127,057 for the first year. The five-year contract cost is $3,141,121 and replaces the existing Ellucian commitment. With the new upgrade, the college will reduce the risk associated with maintenance, upgrades, backups, and securing sensitive data that resides on college servers by securing the system on Amazon Web Services, which has partnered with Ellucian. Ellucian is the primary student information system for college operations.

The board also approved the Title III grant funding purchase of 15 SMART podiums and five Elmo document cameras to provide updated technology in classrooms for $28,548.75 to CDW-G of Vernon Hills, IL.

In personnel matters, the board approved the hire of Crystal Donoho as the new director of the Children’s Learning Center. Lauren Myers was promoted to Director of Institutional Effectiveness, effective September 1, 2022.  She currently works as the college’s Information Technology Business Analyst and is a KC alumna.

The board approved the new position of a KC Pathway to Healthcare Careers Grant Nursing Program Success Coach, which will be a 100% grant-funded position as a part of the Illinois Community College Board’s funding of the Pipeline for Advancement of Healthcare Workforce (PATH) Grant, contingent upon grant approval. Additionally, a restructure of a vacant position was approved to become the Healthcare Career Grant Coordinator and Allied Health Office Assistant position, contingent upon the PATH grant approval. This position was approved to attract a broader candidate pool and support essential office operations.

The board also accepted the resignation of Pamela Smith – Children’s Learning Center Director.
