Kaskaskia College is proud to announce that Lynn Orechovesky of Brownstown has been named the 2019 KC Paul Simon Student Essay Award Winner.

Lynn is a freshman in the Kaskaskia College Nursing Program.  After KC, she hopes to transfer to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to complete her BSN.  She is a proud U.S. Army Veteran and is married to her husband of 19 years.  She is the mother of three children and the daughter of Donald Forbes and the late Sharon Forbes.

Lynn’s essay, “How My Community College has Changed My Life”, expresses how an education has become so much more to her now that she’s been at KC.  “When most people think of things that change their lives, community college is not what generally comes to mind.  Most people will say that marriage, children, or even religion has changed their lives.  Those things changed my life also, but I can truly say that my community college is changing my life.”

She says, “My community college has made me a role model not just to my daughters but to their friends as well.  It makes me feel good when they say they are proud of me for finishing what I started so long ago. This is also a pride that my father expresses every time I talk to him.  When I finish this Nursing program, I will be the first person in my family to graduate from      college.  I think that’s a change that Kaskaskia College can be proud of.”
