Sharon and Bill Patton said that their mother had a love of education and actually taught in a one room school house named Doelling School located in Lively Grove. Her family said that many of her grandchildren/great grandchildren attended Kaskaskia College and she believed in the commitment to higher education. Mrs. Patton’s family hopes and encourages other families to consider the Nashville Education Center project as an option for a charitable choice. The total donation from the family was $560.00.
Rohma Patton reached the age of 90 plus four months and was an early advocate of education attending SIU-C earning a teaching certificate. She was definitely a person that was a pioneer in emphasizing learning.
The college continues the campaign to raise funds to build a permanent center in Washington County. Currently the Nashville Center operates in a 3500 square foot building and the goal is to build a permanent 12,000 square foot building located conveniently to Washington County and neighboring county residents.
