Position Overview:
The Mathematics Department is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Federal Work-Study student to assist with editing closed captions for instructor-created math videos and to serve as a proctor for in-person mathematics tests. This position is ideal for students with strong attention to detail, familiarity with math notation and terminology, and a commitment to academic integrity.
Primary Responsibilities:
Closed Caption Editing:
- Review and edit auto-generated captions for accuracy, clarity, punctuation, and grammar.
- Ensure proper formatting and alignment with spoken content, especially for mathematical terms and symbols.
- Use captioning software or platforms as provided by the department (e.g., YouTube Studio, Canvas Studio, etc.).
- Communicate any issues with video/audio quality to instructors or technical staff.
Test Proctoring:
- Monitor in-person math exams to ensure a secure and distraction-free testing environment.
- Verify student identities and distribute/collect test materials according to protocol.
- Enforce academic honesty policies and report any concerns or incidents to faculty.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications:

Required:
- Eligible for Federal Work-Study.
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Familiarity with mathematical vocabulary, symbols, and notation.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and impartiality in academic settings.

Preferred:
- Completion of Calculus II and Statistics.
- Previous experience with captioning platforms or transcription.
- Comfortable with basic technology tools (Google Workspace, caption editors, etc.).
Work Schedule:
- Flexible hours between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, with occasional evening proctoring as needed.
- Anticipated 8–15 hours per week, depending on availability and department needs. Max 20 hours.
