Position responsible for assisting teacher with carrying out daily, age-appropriate activities, help in maintaining classroom, and performing related duties in the Child Care Center. DCFS Background Check, including fingerprinting required.
Organizational Relationships
This position reports to the Children’s Learning Center Director, who reports to the Dean of Career and Technical Education, who reports to the VP of Instruction, who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications for Position
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Be a member of Illinois Gateways to Opportunity (within 30 days of hire)
Pass a physical and provide proof of MMR and Tdap vaccinations and a negative TB test
Have strong communication and organization skills
Ability to work a flexible schedule and be flexible in performing daily Center duties
Preferred:
Previous experience in an early childhood program such as a childcare center, daycare home, preschool, kindergarten, or nursery school
CPR and First Aid certified
Food Handlers certificate
Essential Functions
Work with the teachers to maintain a neat and organized classroom and assist in the maintenance of equipment and materials as needed.
Assist with leading assigned activities.
Assist in the supervision of activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times and use positive guidance and redirection when interacting with the children.
Assist teachers in activities outside the classroom, such as playground, walks or field trips, as necessary.
Supervise nap time with the teachers by helping children rest if necessary and/or accomplish work within the classroom if the children are resting comfortably.
Help with breakfast, lunch, and snack time, including getting meals from cafeteria.
Ensure professional communication and relationships with parents, families, and guardians.
Maintain confidentiality.
Assist in preparing and maintaining all necessary records, documentation, and relevant state Child Care Licensing requirements.
Maintain prompt hours, notify the Director in the event of illness, maintain a neat, clean, and appropriate appearance, and work cooperatively with all staff.
Follow all DCFS and early childhood licensing requirements and training.
Perform other duties as assigned
