Position promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of the students, faculty, staff, and community as a uniformed presence on campus. Security officers perform stationary monitoring assignments, and foot and vehicle patrols of the college campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings, property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. They monitor the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling or monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior.
Organizational Relationships
Employee reports to the Assistant Director of Public Safety, who reports to the Director of Public Safety.
Qualifications for Position
Required: • Proven working experience in security • High school diploma or GED • Must be at least 21 years of age • Must be a citizen of the United States • Familiar with community college environment • Excellent knowledge of standard operating procedures and the standard 10 code • Knowledge and skills of College policies and practices • Adequate interpersonal and communication skills verbally and written • Proficiency in using radio and emergency response equipment • Excellent organizational skills • Must have good vision, hearing, strength, and agility • Ability to build effective working relationships • Conflict resolutions and problem-solving skills • Personal characteristics require honesty, sound judgement, integrity, and a sense of responsibility • Must be available to work all assigned shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays • Valid Driver’s License
Preferred: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
Essential Functions
Provide written reports of incidents that occur on campus
Provides facility security
Maintain order on campus pursuant to college policies, state and federal laws
Patrol campus facilities by vehicle and foot
Provide departmental services and maintain appropriate records
Enforce college parking, traffic, rules and regulations
Maintain proficiency with department equipment
Promote positive community service and relationships throughout the entire campus community
Monitor the day to day activities
Maintain a secure and safe environment during sporting events, conferences and demonstrations
Respond to campus emergencies, fire alarms, and calls for service
First responder when medical situations occur
Other Functions
Perform other duties as assigned.

Kaskaskia College is seeking applicants for three Safety & Security Officer positions, which will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors by patrolling and monitoring the College premises.
Essential functions of the role include but are not limited to; maintain and monitor operations of and appropriately respond to all fire alarms, security system, and emergency systems, as well as secure maintenance services when necessary, monitors and reports security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations and communicates with appropriate parties. This position may have to correct, confront, or detain individuals not following College policies or applicable laws, complete reports by accurately recording observations, information and/or incidences in a timely manner and provide escort services or other protection services for visitors, students, and college employees as necessary.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some of the other qualifications include but are not limited to; proficiency using Microsoft Office products including; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently without direct supervision and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. The candidate must possess a current CPR/AED and basic first aid within 60 days of hire. They must also possess a valid drivers license and the ability to travel to various locations in the district using a personal vehicle.

BENEFIT SUMMARY SHEET FOR FULL TIME CARPENTER UNION STAFF KASKASKIA COLLEGE The following information is based on the current employee fringe benefits that Kaskaskia College offers. It is not intended to be a contractual agreement and in no way limits Kaskaskia College from altering such benefits in the future. VACATION LEAVE 12 days per fiscal year for the first fiscal year. Thereafter, employee receives 12 days plus one additional vacation day for each year of completed service up to a maximum of 22 days per fiscal year. Leave is accrued at the rate of 1 day per month.
