To perform instructional and related duties in Kaskaskia’s Heating, Vent and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Occupations
educational program located at the Centralia Correctional Center.
Organizational Relationships
Faculty member reports to the Director of CCC Educational Programs, who reports to the Dean of Career and Technical
Education, who reports to the Vice President of Instructional Services, who reports to the President of the College. Faculty
member supervises student and inmate worker(s) as necessary.
Qualifications for Position
Required:
• Certification(s), experience, education and/or a combination related to HVAC operations • Two or more years of experience in HVAC • Commitment to community college mission and philosophy • Excellent communication, organization, planning, and presentation skills • Willingness and ability to teach students in a correctional facility setting • Maintain professionalism and work with Illinois Department of Corrections and Kaskaskia College in an effective and positive manner
Preferred:
• Associate’s degree or higher in field • Community college teaching experience
Essential Functions
• Perform instructional duties in a correctional facility setting • Prepare or update syllabi and curriculum materials as needed for all courses in which the faculty member has instructional responsibilities. • Schedule classroom activity with shop and work experience activities to provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge for job placement • Collaborate with the KC HVAC Instructor as necessary and needed • Attend and participate in faculty and committee meetings, sponsorship of student activities and other College activities as requested • Prepare reports as required. • Participate in commencement exercises at the Centralia Correctional Center (CCC) and main campus. • Cooperate with the Program Director to effectively resolve student problems • Recommend textbooks and equipment, which the instructor deems necessary in instructional assignments. • Perform assessment of student learning and participate in College wide assessment program. • Perform program review. • Report absences from assigned responsibilities promptly to the Correctional Center Program Director. • Maintain responsibility for all attendance, classroom records and EGCC (Earned Good Conduct Credit) for all inmates assigned to the program. • Comply with all tool control procedures as prescribed by the Director • Maintain inventory and control of flammable and caustics • Perform classroom shop maintenance related to program and maintain institutional equipment and inmate equipment as requested • Submit purchase order requests for instructional materials, books, required commodities and supplies to the Director for approval • Prior to release, serve as a mentor to students on continuing College program opportunities after release • Keep abreast of current trends, technologies and information in subject area. • Plan and implement a program of communication and recruitment with potential interested students in the specific teaching area or vocational program. Be responsible for ensuring adequate enrollment levels in instructor’s instructional program.
Other Functions
• Provide input to the Correctional Center Program Director in the budget process and regularly monitor departmental • budget. • Assist the appropriate College staff in follow-up activities for graduating or existing Kaskaskia College students. • Assist the appropriate College staff in the dissemination of information dealing with Kaskaskia College programs and activities for students and the community. • Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervise student and inmate worker(s) as necessary.
Supervisory Controls
Employee is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation
as necessary is available with the Director.
Guidelines
Employee is expected to follow all College and Correctional Center policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and
federal laws. Faculty member is also expected to adhere to and foster development of Kaskaskia College core
values of compassion, honesty, respect, responsibility and fairness.
Personal Relationships
Employee will have daily contact with students, inmates and other College and Correctional Center employees. Contacts
with the community may also be made.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties will be performed in a secure prison setting, which requires strict adherence to rules, procedures, and policies.
Travel within the College district, as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary.
Twelve-month position, eligible for fringe benefits, beginning date contingent on DOC approval. The College is seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, student learning, and to the use of technology and innovation in the delivery of instruction. Position will equip students with necessary skills to function effectively in the workforce. Position will develop curriculum and teach all aspects of HVAC occupations curriculum in Centralia Correctional Center educational program.
