The Director of Learning Innovation & Design provides vision, leadership, and hands-on support for college-wide educational technology, online learning, and technology support services, including educational technology development, and application of educational technologies, faculty development programs, classroom, and instructional space planning, enterprise learning management systems (LMS), departmental communications, and digital fluency initiatives.
Required Functions:
• Establish a vision and goals for Educational Technology (ET) across campus and ensure it meets or exceeds established goals.
• Conduct multi-year planning for ET budget needs.
• Provide oversight to the LMS and all systems that integrate into it, such as lecture capture, web conference, etc.
• Oversee the design, development, and/or re-design of content for e-learning, web-based, and/or instructor-led classes, courses, and certificate programs.
• Collaborate with internal and external faculty members and subject matter experts on various projects and programs for an online learning environment.
• The employee is expected to execute functions promptly and professionally, including evening and weekend commitments.
• Work closely with Faculty and Information Technology
• Serve on all required committees.
Essential Functions:
• Coordinate professional development related to new technology and pedagogy for faculty, staff, and students.
• Design and provide use-focused training for faculty, staff, and students to empower them to use the educational technology tools currently available.
• Continuously search for and evaluate new opportunities to integrate tools and strategies into teaching with technology at the college.
• Manage projects for new technology initiatives
• Collaborate with informational technology staff, functional users, and implementation committees
• Promote an educational environment that recognizes and values diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of academic excellence.
Organizational Relationships
The Director of Learning Innovation & Design reports to the Chief Information Officer, who reports to the Vice President of Administrative Services who reports to the College President
Qualifications for Position
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related discipline
3+ years of experience required in instructional design, educational technology, and/or teaching online in higher education, including assessing student learning outcomes.
Comprehensive knowledge of teaching with technologies, learning theory, online assessment, and curriculum design
In-depth knowledge of pedagogical issues related to learning, teaching, and assessment in online, blended, and technology-enhanced contexts.
Expertise with mainstream collaborative video-conferencing, video capture, collaboration, accessibility, and learning resource integration tools.
LMS Experience
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage, including setting clear goals and expectations, providing regular feedback and coaching, and fostering a positive and productive working relationship.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of various audiences.
Essential Functions
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree, with requisite Bachelor’s degree or experience
Five years of related experience
Experience with learning management systems, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, web authoring tools, and multimedia development.
Experience with online/blended course development and integration of educational technology in the learning environment. Experience with multimedia development.
Knowledge of presenting or teaching by using multi-modal forms of delivery.
Demonstrated success in project management and facilitation of collaborative and creative projects.
Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for faculty members.
Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple initiatives and projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, a good sense of humor, and the ability to work effectively as a team leader and colleague across the college.
Experience managing budgets, supervising teams, and developing strategic plans (e.g., moving from vision to integration).
Experience with learning analytics.
Supervisory Controls
Manage all members of the Educational Technology department. Responsible for professional development, assigning and reviewing work, approving leaves and timesheets, and completing evaluations. Has direct supervisory oversight of the Learning Innovation Center, MakerSpace, Instructional Designer, and possible student workers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Works in a standard office environment with frequent distractions, interruptions, and deadlines.
• Must be able to be mobile and stationary throughout the workday
• Have the ability to transport 20 pounds and be able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office
• Travel within the college district and occasional overnight travel, is required as necessary for professional development and in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $60,000-$70,000 annually and fringe benefits eligible.
