The Dean of Health Sciences is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of Health Sciences Education courses and programs at the main campus and other college locations where programs may be offered.
Qualifications for Position
Qualifications for the Position - required:
Master’s degree in Nursing
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in healthcare
Minimum of 2 years healthcare leadership/management experience
Experience with accreditation standards compliance of healthcare education programs or clinical healthcare settings
Knowledge of curriculum design to include the use of technology and alternative methods of delivery.
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Excellent communication, organization, planning, and presentation skills
Commitment to student learning
Commitment to the community college mission, philosophy, and core values
Knowledge of teaching/learning methodologies to include the “learning college”
Qualifications for the Position – preferred:
Experience in higher education healthcare-related programs
Experience in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets
Essential Functions
1. Provide leadership for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all healthcare education programs including: compliance with accreditation requirements, expansion of programs, ensuring programming is current and relevant to current industry standards, developing partnerships with industry healthcare organizations, and articulation agreements with four-year institutions, maintaining a high level of student success and instructional quality, assessing course and program-level student learning outcomes, and supporting and enhancing outreach. 2. Promote an educational environment that recognizes and values diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of academic excellence. 3. Manage and lead faculty and staff, provide mentoring and training where required, and address student concerns and complaints. 4. Oversee healthcare education budget requests and administer budgets with input from faculty, program coordinators, and the Vice President of Instructional Services. 5. Serve as a member of the Instructional Services Leadership Team and other committees and groups as assigned, and cooperate with all members of the administration in addressing issues that relate to both instruction and the overall mission of the College. 6. Embrace daily contact with students, faculty, and other college employees and engage in frequent contact with community and external agencies.
7. Develop, foster, and maintain solid relationships with area healthcare partners.
8. Provide overall leadership for professional development and long-range planning in Health Science programs. 9. Make recommendations to the Vice President of Instructional Services for policies and procedures designed to improve Health Science programs. 10. Oversee and coordinate marketing and recruitment efforts including leadership and oversight of special admit student applications. 11. Pursue relevant grants. 12. Coordinate and oversee special events as assigned. Teach classroom or clinical sections as assigned by the Vice President of Instructional Services

Supervisory Responsibility
Responsible for supervision of all faculty, professional, and support staff within the Health Sciences program areas.
Supervisory Controls
The Dean of Health Sciences is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation with the Vice President of Instructional Services is available as needed.

The Dean of Health Sciences is expected to follow all College policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and federal laws. The Dean is also expected to adhere to and foster the development of Kaskaskia College core values of compassion, honesty, respect, responsibility, and fairness.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Flexible schedule required, including daytime and evening hours and weekends. Travel throughout the College district required as needed in the performance of duties.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range is $75,000-$85,000 annually and fringe benefits eligible.

VACATION LEAVE 1.83 days per month, for a total of 22 days per fiscal year. For grant-funded employees, vacation time must be used in the year that it is earned. LIFE INSURANCE is provided by the College and is effective the first day of the month after hire date. The benefit amount is equal to an annual salary. FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT and 403(b) PLANS are also available. RETIREMENT PLAN The State Universities Retirement System requires that 8% of an employee’s monthly gross pay is deducted for individual retirement purposes. It is also required that .5% of an employee’s monthly gross pay be deducted to fund the College Insurance Plan for Community College Retirees. TUITION WAIVERS are available for staff and family.
