Qualifications for Position
• Appropriate certification(s) related to light diesel and automotive • Two or more years of experience with light diesel vehicles • Ability to learn additional areas of automotive and earn certifications (i.e. ASE Auto Master Technician) • Commitment to community college mission and philosophy. • Excellent communication, organization, planning, and presentation skills. • Willingness and ability to teach students in the classroom and through alternative delivery methods. • Work with entire College community in an effective and positive manner.
• Associate’s degree in field • Teaching/mentoring experience.
• Perform instructional duties as assigned for appropriate subject area • Teach nine credit hours a semester (fall, spring, summer) in light diesel, automotive, automatic transmissions (training and education provided if needed) • Coordination with the Professor of Automotive to help maintain the Automotive Shop, Lab and Program • Learn the competencies of ASE (Automotive Service Excellence), earn certifications and incorporate into curriculum • Learn about Advanced Hybrid/Electric technology and develop curriculum to incorporate into the existing program and seek opportunities for grants, donations, etc.for a hybrid/electric car • Develop and/or update appropriate curriculum for other automotive classes instructor is teaching • Prepare or update syllabi as needed for all courses in which the faculty member has instructional responsibilities. • Attend and participate in committee meetings, sponsorship of student activities and other College activities as requested. • Mentor and counsel students in the registration process and during office hours. • Seek partnerships, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, grants, and other work-based learning • Prepare reports as requested. • Participate in commencement exercises. • Recommend textbooks and equipment, which the instructor deems necessary in instructional assignments. • Perform assessment of student learning and participate in College wide assessment program. • Perform program review. • Report absences from assigned responsibilities promptly to the Dean. • Maintain attendance and grade records and provide these records for review as necessary. • Participate in professional development activities both on campus and off-campus as requested. • Keep abreast of current trends, technologies and information in subject area. • Review and recommend course fees annually. • Plan and implement a program of communication and recruitment with potential interested students and community members in the specific teaching area • Conduct graduate employment surveys as required. • Assume responsibility for ensuring adequate enrollment levels in instructor’s program.
• Provide input to the Dean in the budget process and regularly monitor departmental budget. • Assist the appropriate College staff in follow-up activities for graduating or existing Kaskaskia College students. • Assist the appropriate College staff in the dissemination of information dealing with Kaskaskia College programs and activities for students and the community. • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with collective bargaining agreement.
Supervise student worker(s) as necessary.
Employee is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation as necessary is available with the Dean/Vice President.

Employee will have daily contact with students and other College employees and will have frequent contact with community.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties will be performed in either a classroom setting or a business and industry environment.
Travel within the College district, as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary.
12-month position starting Fall Semester 2021. Full-time, benefit eligible position with a salary range of $49,000-$65,000. Responsible for instruction and all related duties in the Automotive Program as required, including assessment of student learning, program review, student recruitment and advisement, and institutional committee participation. Will be required to teach each semester. Flexible schedule required, including some evenings and weekends.
Appropriate certification(s) related to light diesel and automotive, and two or more years of experience with light diesel vehicles are required. Also, requires commitment to community college mission and philosophy, commitment to student learning, willingness and ability to use technology and innovation in the delivery of instruction, and excellent communication, organization, planning, and presentation skills. Previous teaching experience, two years of community college teaching experience, and an Associate’s Degree preferred.

The State Universities Retirement System requires that 8% of an employee’s monthly gross pay is deducted for individual retirement purposes.
