The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Part Time Instructor is responsible for the delivery of classroom instruction to adult students (ABE, ASE, and/or ESL).
Organizational Relationships
This position reports to the County Coordinator or Literacy or Educational Coordinator, who reports to the Director of Adult Education and Literacy. The Director of AEL Director reports to the Vice President of Instructional Services who reports to the President.
Qualifications for Position
Required: • Bachelor’s Degree • 3 years of teaching experience
Preferred: • MA in Adult Education, ESL, or related field • Experience in delivery of instruction to educationally and economically disadvantaged adults. • Special Education experience • Demonstration of proficiency in oral and written English • Technology/Digital Literacy proficiency • Training or Coursework in teaching reading and math • Teacher Certification/training or coursework in teaching methodology
Essential Functions
• Deliver instructional services based on research and practice to adult education students. • Incorporate technology assisted instruction into the curricula. • Maintain classroom educational atmosphere. • As appropriate conduct follow-up of student attendance. • Facilitate assessment testing as necessary. • Facilitate portfolio assessment process. • Integrate group and individual tutoring opportunities into instructional plan to provide maximum assistance to students. • Provide a delivery style that addresses the application of knowledge acquisition to daily living and work. • Provide assistance to students in the goal setting process and develop curriculum and instructional materials that assist learners in achieving their goals. • Employ instructional techniques that will accommodate students with learning differences. • Attend the New Teacher Orientation provided by the Service Center. • Attend required 12 hours per year of Professional Development activities approved by the AEL Department. • Attend those functions of the AEL Department that are necessary for the support of the students and the work of the department, i.e. GED Graduation, adjunct faculty meetings, AEL staff meetings and any other events as prescribed by the Director.
Other Functions
Complete paperwork as required by the AEL Department.
Supervisory Responsibility
Instructor may be required to supervise classroom tutors or aides during the class, providing direction for those who work with the students in the classroom.
Supervisory Controls
The instructor is expected to work independently. Consultation with the Director and other department staff if available as needed.

Personal Relationships
This position will require verbal and written communication with students in a classroom setting as well as interaction with the AEL staff.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The classroom environment may have distractions and interruptions. Position may require the transporting of books and supplies, which may weigh up to fifty pounds. Also requires the ability to travel to locations within the service area to fulfill responsibilities.

The position is a part-time grant funded. Pay rate is depending on prior experience and education.
Position requires Bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience. Master’s Degree in Adult Education, ESL or related field preferred. A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, strong understanding of and commitment to teamwork, excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated proficiency in organizing and planning.
