The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Student District Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of adult classes and tutoring services offered by the department in the Bond and Fayette County areas. This position will have frequent contact with Kaskaskia College staff, instructors and students, volunteer tutors and learners, and the public.
Organizational Relationships
The Student District Coordinator reports to the Director of AEL who reports to the Vice President of Instructional Services, who reports to the President. To accomplish the work of the position, the county coordinator will work closely with other personnel in the AEL Department.
Qualifications for Position
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor degree in education, social service, or related field.
Experience in working with underprivileged, undereducated, disadvantaged and minority adults.
Excellent communication and human relations skills.
Proficiency organizing and planning
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
Three to five years experience in a literacy or adult education program.
Case management experience.
Essential Functions
Identify, recruit, and assist with retention of students eligible for AEL services, including ESL students.
Monitor, collect, and report data associated with adult education services.
Assist with and implement adult education class sessions in district counties.
Collaborate with personnel of local agencies, businesses, and organizations to promote AEL services in all district counties.
Oversee adult student’s needs in ABE, ESL, and GED programs in designated counties.
Assist AEL instructors with management of AEL books, resources, and other materials.
Other Functions
Assist in the development, distribution, and presentation of marketing correspondence that explains the services offered by Kaskaskia College’s Adult Education and Literacy Department.
Attend staff development activities for professional development.
Assist, as needed, with the retention efforts of adult learners by the Adult Education and Literacy Department.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education and Literacy
Supervisory Responsibility
The Student District Coordinator will supervise instructors student workers associated with the AEL programs and as assigned by the Director of Adult Education and Literacy.

Personal Relationships
The County Coordinators will have frequent contact with students, college staff, parents, and the public.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties performed in a standard office environment with frequent distractions and interruptions. Position requires the transporting of books and supplies, which may weigh up to fifty pounds. Also requires the ability to travel to locations within the service area to fulfill responsibilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $37,500-$40,000 annually and fringe benefits eligible.

RETIREMENT PLAN The State Universities Retirement System requires that 8% of an employee’s monthly gross pay is deducted for individual retirement purposes.
