LSILE Scholarship Policy
LSILE is a Scholarship (High School and/or college) program that provides scholarships to current high school seniors or college students who have a parent presently serving in Illinois law enforcement, who are retired Illinois law enforcement, Illinois law enforcement who have fallen or Illinois civilian employees. To be considered for the LSILE Scholarship, candidates must complete the application and submit necessary documents. Current scholarship amount for 2026 is $2,500.00. Law enforcement includes both sworn and civilian positions.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements: To be considered for a LSILE scholarship, you must have a parent who is currently serving in Illinois law enforcement (sworn or civilian), retired from an Illinois law enforcement agency, an Illinois fallen officer or an Illinois law enforcement official who has passed away and also meet the following criteria:
- Be a high school senior or recent graduate who is pursuing post-secondary education.
- Student currently enrolled and accepted at a college and/or university.
- Student with a parent presently serving in Illinois law enforcement (sworn or civilian)
- Student with a parent who retired from Illinois law enforcement
- Student with a parent in Illinois law enforcement who lost their life in the line of duty
- Student with a parent in Illinois law enforcement who has passed away
There are no restrictions based upon sex, race, creed or nationality of the applicant.
How To Apply
- Fill out application completely. Obtain a form from the LSILE Scholarship Committee or go to its web site www.LERMI.org
- Proof of admissions /registration to the class
- Submit ONLY two letters of recommendation provided by people not related to you, on letterhead and with original signature.
- 2-page essay; essay must include;
- What are your career aspirations, and how can this scholarship help you achieve them?
- Think of a time when you interacted with a law enforcement officer who changed your perspective, whether positively or negatively. What specific aspects of that encounter influenced your feelings? Was it the officers attitude, the context, or something they said that struck you? Reflect on how that experience influenced your understanding of law enforcement and its relationship with the community.
- How has having a parent in law enforcement shaped your values, influenced your experiences, or transformed your outlook on life?
Mail the completed application postmarked no later than March 1, 2026. The LSILE Scholarship Committee will be announcing the winner May 1, 2026.
