Math for HVAC

Course Overview

Course Code: HVAC-100

Department: Heating, Vent & Air Condition

Credit Hours: 3.00

Textbook Information: Bookstore website

This course is designed to be substituted for Math 101 in the HVAC degree program only and would be added as a required course for the Heating, Vent& Air Conditioning certificate, HVAC.0500.CERT. Mathematical skills are critical in the HVAC field; however, many high school graduates demonstrate limited proficiency in applied math. The Math 101 course is a 3-credit hour course; however, the math class does not address calculations for allowances and tolerances specific to HVAC. The HVAC 100 will address mathematical skills specific to the trade and will be a replacement for the MATH 101 credit hours. The credit hours are designed to provide the instructional time necessary for HVAC technicians to develop competency in the mathematical concepts required for the field. Aligning these credit hours is essential to allow for a direct course substitution, while also ensuring that students gain a comprehensive understanding of the math skills directly related to all aspects of HVAC systems and applications.
