This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the automotive engine performance systems. Emphasis is placed on the theory, operation, diagnosis, and repair of internal combustion engine performance components. Topics include fuel delivery systems, ignition systems, air induction and exhaust systems, OBD-II diagnostics, emission control fundamentals, and the use of industry-standard tools and scan equipment. Students will interpret technical service information, retrieve and analyze diagnostic trouble codes, and perform basic performance testing under instructor supervision. Safety practices, proper tool usage, and environmental considerations while working with fuels and emissions equipment are integrated throughout the course. Co-requisite or Prerequisite: AUTO 119 or with approval of instructor or Academic Dean.
