CENTRALIA, IL – Kaskaskia College today announced that it has partnered with Barnes & Noble College to implement First Day Ready, a course material delivery model that will drive affordability, access, and convenience for students.
First Day Ready, an innovative course material delivery model, addresses affordability and equitable access across all courses at an institution by bundling the cost of materials into [tuition/fees] for all students. The program results in a 40% to 50% reduction in cost to students and ensures they have all of their materials for the semester available to them before the first day of class. In addition, First Day Ready fully supports academic freedom and faculty choice. Faculty members can choose the materials that are best suited for their teaching, regardless of publisher or format.
“The KC Bookstore has proudly served the college for decades and will continue to do so under the management of Barnes & Noble College,” said George Evans, President of Kaskaskia College. “In recent years, the textbook industry and operations have changed dramatically, and we felt partnering with Barnes & Noble College was the best way to continue KC’s mission and offer the best services for our students and community.”
Kaskaskia College will implement First Day Ready beginning March 15, 2021, for the fall term. After students have registered for their courses, they will receive an email from the Bookstore prompting them to select their preferred delivery method. The Bookstore will prepare the materials for each student and notify them when the materials have shipped or are available for in-store pickup. Digital materials will be delivered directly through students’ learning management system.
“We are thrilled to partner with Kaskaskia College to bring First Day Ready to campus. Ensuring all students have convenient access to affordable course materials is a foundational step in preparing them for academic success. Through First Day Ready, we can provide students with their materials at even lower prices, available to them before the first day of class,” said Jonathan Shar, EVP, BNED Retail & Client Solutions, Barnes & Noble Education. “We look forward to working closely with Kaskaskia College to create a new course material experience for their students and faculty that is built on convenience, flexibility, and ease of use.”
