Kaskaskia College Music Department prepares for its fall concert season

September 29, 2021

The Kaskaskia College Music Department is preparing to present its first live concerts in seventeen months.

"While we're thrilled to be back, we know things will be a little different," said Professor Cliff Jourdan, Department Chair of Fine & Performing Arts and Director of Instrumental Studies. "We will have to adjust for state-mandated COVID-19 restrictions for higher education - but we are excited to be back on the stage!" According to Professor Lynda Marshall, "we have been waiting patiently to share music with our local community in a live setting."

The Music Department will present four concerts during the fall semester. All concerts are free and open to the public, but seating is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The first concert of the season on October 14 will feature the Kaskaskia College Concert Choir, KC Blues, and Community Chorale under the direction of Professor Lynda Marshall. The concert will begin with Concert Choir performing Michael Engelhart's "I Will Sing." Guest violinist, Maggie Watts, will then join the choir to perform Eric Whitacre's gorgeous setting of "Five Hebrew Love Songs."

KC Blues will present an a cappella setting of "When I Fall in Love" followed by an eclectic contemporary song, "Water Fountain," originally recorded by the Tune-Yards. Community Chorale will begin with two familiar tunes. The first is a contemporary setting of the traditional Appalachian song "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," followed by a new "Red River Valley setting." The concert will conclude with an exuberant setting of "Let the River Run" by Craig Hella Johnson. Barb Roberts will be collaborating with the choirs on piano, and guest percussionists include Professor Cliff Jourdan and KC student Jake Nollman.
