The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting on Monday, November 21, 2021. Board members included Bill Hawley (Odin), Bryan Holthaus (Carlyle), Louis Kalert (Centralia), Laura Wedekemper (Shattuc), Jeff Brown (Greenville), and Alexis Enke (Student Trustee). Jim Beasley (Centralia) was absent.
President George Evans shared with the Board of Trustees members that the college received notice from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) indicating that Kaskaskia College is fully accredited and the “on notice” sanction has been lifted. Evans indicated that the college would follow the standard pathway of accreditation and that the next HLC comprehensive visit will occur in spring 2024. Additionally, Evans indicated that the mark of accreditation is essential for the college to continue its normal operations and to ensure the college qualifies for Title IV funding, such as Pell Grants and other federal subsidies tied to higher learning.
Judy Hemker, KC Vice President of Administrative Services, introduced the college’s external auditors, CliftonLarsonAllen, to present the annual audit findings. The college received an unmodified opinion of good standing. Chris Suda of CliftonLarsenAllen indicated in his report to the Board of Trustees that the college administration's high level of transparency and communication was commendable and worthy of notice. Later, President Evans recognized Judy Hemker and her team for an exemplary report.
In another action Monday evening, the board awarded a bid to Glandt Roofing LLC of East Carondelet in the amount of $454,865 for L Building and Fine Arts addition roof replacement as a Protection, Health, and Safety (PHS) project.
The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees approved the change in the athletic director position from a part-time to a full-time position, plus the following personnel items:
• Aryashree Kharel – Assistant Professor of Chemistry
• Steven Foutch – Director of Retention and Support Services
• Joy Fitts – Associate Dean of Workforce Engagement and Industrial Careers
• Gina Cagle – Adult Education and Literacy Education Coordinator
• Rodney Saeger – Building and Grounds Technician - effective 12/31/21
