Free Forum to be held at Centralia Youth Center sponsored by Kaskaskia College’s Workforce Equity Initiative Grant and R3 Grant

May 10, 2021

Kaskaskia College will hold a free forum on Saturday, May 22, to promote the Workforce Equity Initiative Grant (WEI) opportunities. The event will be from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Centralia Youth Center with light refreshments, door prizes, and giveaways provided by the R3 Grant (Restore, Reinvest, and Renew in the Community).

KC’s WEI Grant features the Serving with An Equity Lens (SEALS) program that offers free tuition, books, course fees, childcare, transportation, employment opportunities, and training assistance to minority participants. The grant will serve up to 75 participants, with at least 60% reserved for African Americans. The SEALS program aims to have participants trained and job-ready in less than a year and support them with job placement.

Eligible applicants to the program can be any African American or minority person who wants to earn a workforce certificate. Targeted participants include minority high school seniors planning to attend Kaskaskia College, current or withdrawn KC students, out-of-school youth, military veterans, adult education students/alumni, or displaced workers.
Participants may choose from the following programs to complete: carpentry, welding, truck driver training, certified nursing assisting (CNA), automotive technology, heating/venting, and air conditioning (HVAC), or network security administration (IT). Kaskaskia College personnel will assist participants in career placement or connect them to the appropriate resources to continue their education or training.

KC WEI team will be providing information about certificate programs and supporting services through the grant. Representatives from the Adult Education Department and the Workforce Engagement and Career Services will also be providing information about their programs.

For more information or questions, please contact WEI Academic Advisor Charlee George at 618-545-3132 or WEI Recruiter Bunny Garrett at 618-545-3122.
The WEI grant funding is provided in whole or in part by the Illinois Community College Board.
