Job Overview:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and performance of a Genetic Nucleus Sow Site. The Nucleus Site Manager, Genetic Operations is responsible for developing a team of Section Managers/and or Technicians through routine communications; training programs, planning, and Performance Management. They will possess a thorough understand genetic principles and ensure implementation of all Genetic and Breed to Wean work instructions. The Nucleus Site Manager will work closely with data input staff to submit accurate and timely farm records in order to promote data integrity. This position is accountable for all on-farm Genetic and performance objectives and routine review of progress of the appropriate farm metrics using systems-based management.


Job Duties & Accountabilities
Typical Duties of the Nucleus Site Manager, Genetic Operations include:


Operating and biological performance of a Genetic Nucleus Sow Site
o Maintain accurate and timely Genetic records and farm reports
o Maintain accurate animal identification
o Assist in development of annual site operating goals and plans
o Assist in developing annual R&M plans
o Monitor, review, and analyze genetic, biological and operational performance metrics for root cause of performance issues, identify effective countermeasures, and execute plans to restore performance.
o Execute breeding plans focused on pure line selection in accordance in order to maximize genetic improvement that drives profitability within TML value chain
o Oversee and monitor breeding stock selection and implement breeding plans
o Train, implement and monitor all work instructions for Genetic and Breed-to- Wean management activities in compliance with the DCS procedure


Team Leadership and Development
o Provide daily leadership to a team consisting of a Genetic Supervisor, Section Managers/and or Technicians through strong communication, active planning, priority setting, effective delegation, and routine coaching of management behaviors
o Thorough implementation of specific leadership development programs, select, and develop new Section Managers/and or Technicians
o Utilize Human Resources and related systems to recruit, hire, train, on-board, and retain the best qualified personnel
o Ensure the company’s formal Performance Management system is properly executed for all employees to drive performance, reinforce positive behaviors, and enhance leadership


Sustainability and Stewardship
o Promote safe work habits, safe working environment, and document all work- related injuries
o Ensure all best management practices are consistent with commonly accepted standards for animal welfare
o Ensure pig production is conducted in a manner that safeguards the environment and maintains regulatory compliance
o Monitor and direct all practices that promote bio-security in coordination with Health Services and all support functions


Minimum Qualifications


Education
High School diploma or GED Bachelors of Science in Animal Science or Agriculture or a related field preferred


Experience
1 + years swine management supervising 8 + employees preferred


Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities


1) Knowledge of:
Agriculture industry preferred
Company policies and procedures
Standard Operating Procedures of the system (thorough understanding) Standard maintenance procedures
Proper pig terminology and livestock handling (advanced)
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) and basic understanding of computers is required


2) Ability to:
Work independently, as well as be a team player
Effectively monitor and develop subordinates to ensure smooth operation of the farm
Maintain confidentiality
Learn new genetic, animal husbandry and technical skills
Use production records to facilitate improvements
Properly train Genetic and Breed-to-Wean work instructions


3) Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Organizational and leadership skills
