Greenville Education Center
The Kaskaskia College Greenville Education Center has
been very successful at reaching, enrolling, and serving citizens in the
Greenville area. This Center was created to make higher educational
opportunities more accessible.
As a result of creating the Center, the College
has been quite effective in serving a population that was not being reached
because of variable time and distance factors which are so critical to students
in acquiring a higher education, especially given the demands placed upon their
lives.
The demands for additional educational
programs along with limited enrollment opportunities at the present center
(because of small classroom sizes) have caused the College to explore options
for additional space. Thus, we have concluded that a larger facility is needed
in the future to meet the demanding and changing needs in the Greenville area
for higher education. We further see a larger Kaskaskia College Greenville
Education Center as a site in which new programs can be developed and offered
for the entire College.
The one–story 10,320 square
foot Kaskaskia College Greenville Education Center is located at 209 North
Third Street in Greenville, Illinois. The location is in an area where it is easily accessed and fully integrate all of the needs of the College for the
Greenville area, by including space for Greenville College, Madison County
Employment and Training services, as well as business incubator offices. On
and off street parking is available in front of and behind the facility.
The building was previously occupied as a thrift store.
Demolition of existing interior walls, dropped ceiling, light fixtures, and
flooring was done and the installation of new interior finishes installed.
Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and alarm systems are upgraded to
accommodate the building re configuration, use and loads, as well as ADA
compliance. Its construction includes insulated metal frame with metal corrugated vertical
siding, metal roof, and brick veneer at the front on a reinforced concrete slab.
It also has concrete floors with VCT, acoustical dropped
ceiling, and gyp board furred walls.
Renovation of the property began in fall 2008 and completed in March 2009. A
Grand Opening of the Center was held on May 28, 2009.
