Advisory Board Meeting Held For Kaskaskia College Nursing Programs
The Advisory Committee for the Kaskaskia College Nursing Programs met recently with the Dean of Nursing, Janet Garretson, presiding.
Members of the committee include representatives from facilities where nursing students do clinical rotations or find employment,
instructors from area high school health occupation programs and KC nursing faculty.
Dean Janet Garretson welcomed the guests to the KC campus. Three students (Jeremy Hollingsead, Debbie Langham, and Mackenzie Branch)
currently enrolled in the Associate Degree program, shared information regarding their experiences as nursing students.
Dean Garretson discussed the introduction of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) as a prerequisite for admission.
A report was given of current status of the nursing program. C N A program currently has 100 students (excluding dual credit),
197 A D N students, 15 PN at Vandalia, 35 PN at the main campus, and 15 PN at the East St. Louis campus. The CNA program has a pass
rate of 90%. The LPN programs pass rate is 92% and the ADN pass rate is 88%. The pass rates are above the national average for year
Virginia Telford announced that she is retiring and Dean Garretson presented her with a gift on behalf of Kaskaskia College in
appreciate of all her years of service in healthcare.
The meeting concluded with lunch and a time of networking.
