Advisory Board Meeting Held For Kaskaskia College Nursing Programs

The Kaskaskia College Nursing Program recently held its annual advisory committee meeting in the LLC building on Kaskaskia College’s campus. The meeting was attended by representatives from administration, faculty, area hospitals, long-term care facilities and McKendree University.

This group is representative of our various communities of interest. Additionally there were members of the current student body, who shared comments regarding the current requirements in the program and provided feedback regarding some suggestions for the future.

The committee was provided information pertaining to the program outcome goals and how each of these were met for the last academic year with a comparison to the previous year. Current enrollment for each program was discussed and information regarding the East St. Louis campus and how the two cohorts of LPN students had been combined on the main campus this past year. We continue to have an LPN cohort in Vandalia which is a January start date.

It was shared that in response to state budget cuts, the college will implement a 4 day college week beginning in summer 2016. The ADN program may continue to use clinical sites five days per week but all theory classes at the main campus will be taught Monday through Thursday. In announcing program changes it was reported that two long term faculty members will retire at the end of the current semester. Additionally, two additional staff members have accepted positions elsewhere. The department is already looking for qualified replacement faculty. The other main program change was the switch from ATI Testing to HESI testing for students in the nursing program. In addition to testing the new vendor will provide case studies, training videos, and an NCLEX review with the bundle which the student purchases.

The facilities represented provided feedback on the items presented and information on their particular entities.
