Kaskaskia College Automotive Technology Program Holds Advisory Board Meeting Held

The Kaskaskia College Automotive Technology Program recently held its Fall Advisory Committee Meeting at Monken Dodge Chrysler-Nissan-Jeep in Centralia. The committee was very appreciative to Wes Monken and his team for showing their beautiful facility and his expert barbecuing skills. The group was happy that the Light Diesel Program has started this fall with Jesse Eagan as the instructor. George Evans, KC Dean of Career and Technical Education said, “I am very pleased with all the interest in the diesel program”.  Additionally, a concern amongst the entire group was expressed of the lack of interest of newer generation young adults not pursuing careers in the automotive technology fields, especially when the wages and career opportunities are very competitive and above average when compared to many other service industry fields.  To help promote the awareness of the many wonderful auto career opportunities in the KC district, Dean Evans and Auto Technology Professors Chuck DeBernardi and Jesse Eagan will be spearheading multiple tours for high school and junior high students of various auto service centers and auto parts manufacturers during National Auto Care Month in 2018.  This effort will help expose the younger generations to the various careers associated within the automotive industry.  Evans stated “we will be inviting many schools in our district to join Kaskaskia College on these tours.  We are very thankful for the wonderful support we receive from this committee and its members.  These people are incredibly dedicated to Chuck’s program.”
