Kaskaskia College Hosts 2018 Southwestern Area FBLA Conference
01/25/2018

Kaskaskia College hosted the 2018 Southwestern Area FBLA Conference on Saturday.  Nine schools, including Belleville East, Carlyle, Central, Freeburg, Mater Dei, O’Fallon, Salem, and South Central were in attendance.

Interim President George Evans says, “The FBLA Conference is a cornerstone of our many events we are lucky enough to host at the college.  It was such a pleasure to see so many young professionals dressed in professional attire and preparing for the many events held this day.  These students are one step ahead of the rest as the preparation and commitment needed to compete in these events is an essential skill that many current and future employers desire to see in their prospective employees.  These students truly are the future business leaders of not only Illinois but the U.S. as a whole.”

Participants from surrounding schools were able to test their knowledge and skills to see who is ready to move on to the State Competition.  The day also included excellent workshops, the chance to meet new members from others schools, and an awards recognition program.

Over 200 students competed in events such as 3-D Animation, Business Plan, Computer Applications, Database Design, Help Desk, Hospitality Management, Job Interview, Public Speaking, and Website Design.

Nathan Wilkins, Professor of Office Technologies and Phi Beta Lambda Co-Advisor for Kaskaskia College says, “The Southwest Area FBLA students had a great day at Kaskaskia College.  The students from the area high schools were polite, professional, and obviously worked hard to prepare for their competitions.  It was also a pleasure to assist Lynn Smith from South Central High School with this event. She puts in a lot of hard work as a FBLA advisor and conference organizer to make this day successful.  We look forward to hosting this conference in the future.”
