Bernie Johnson will take over the helm as the first men’s soccer coach in school history. Johnson graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1982. He then went to Belleville Area College and played one year of baseball before transferring to Kaskaskia to finish his junior college baseball career. He is also a graduate of Kaskaskia. Johnson’s soccer experience is vast as he started a high school club soccer team in Centralia in 1991 and coached there for 3 years. He later started the Centralia High School Program as he served a varsity head coach for one year. Johnson then served as an assistant coach for the varsity squad at Mater Dei High School and later was named head coach at Carlyle High School. He is currently the head coach for the Salem High School varsity soccer team as they begin their inaugural season. Johnson has also coached junior high club teams in Centralia for nearly seven years and was one of the original activists who began the Little Egypt Soccer Club in Centralia and U18 head coach for the last three years for their club program. Johnson lives in Centralia with his wife Julie and two sons.

Rich Hughes of Centralia joins the KC Coaching Staff as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. Hughes started coaching soccer as a freshman at in college in 1980 in Georgetown, KY and has since stayed involved in the sport coaching junior high school leagues in Kentucky and a youth league soccer team in Centralia as well as a men’s league coach in O’Fallon. He is a graduate of the KC Nursing Program and currently is an Emergency Room Nurse in a St. Louis Hospital. He has one grown son who is also a KC graduate.
