A MESSAGE FROM THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the Kaskaskia College web site! We are a proud institution with a long history of serving the area with quality educational programs and services. The college’s roots go back to 1940 when it was a part of the Centralia High School District and was known as Centralia Junior College. In 1966 the college expanded to become a comprehensive community college in a multi-county district and was named Kaskaskia College. The college has the distinction of being the first community college in Illinois formed under the Illinois Public Junior College Act passed by the Legislature and signed into law in 1965. Thus, Kaskaskia College is celebrating this year 43 years of excellence as a multi-county comprehensive community college.

This past year, Kaskaskia College enrolled in excess of 11,000 students. Additionally, the college served some 2,500 business and industry employees with educational programs and there were over 4,000 people served through our Career Center. These enrollments were accommodated by very dedicated faculty and staff members who are committed to providing quality personalized programs and services.

We are a student-centered, learning-oriented institution committed to the success of our students. Kaskaskia College offers college-level courses in support of one-and two-year occupational/technical programs in addition to university-parallel courses constituting the first two years of baccalaureate degree programs.

The college maintains current and modern labs with state-of-the-art technology and is committed to the following:

  1. Provide technologically current career education and training programs to meet the needs of the students, business, and industry.
  2. Prepare students academically for successful transfer to four-year college and university degree programs.
  3. Provide literacy and developmental programs, courses, and services to prepare students to pursue career goals or college-level work.
  4. Provide counseling, advisement, testing, and career placement services to assist students in realizing and achieving individual potential and educational goals.
  5. Increase access to educational programs and services through distance learning, cooperative partnerships with area high schools, and expanded off-campus learning center sites.
  6. Offer cultural and recreational opportunities that enrich the lives of students and district citizens.
  7. Promote professional growth and development among the various constituencies within the learning community.
  8. Expand student’s global awareness and appreciation for cultural diversity.
  9. Encourage a sense of active citizenship and responsible behavior among the various constituencies within the learning community.

As an institution that puts people first, we are dedicated to serving our students with quality programs and services in a caring environment. Please let us know whenever we can be of any assistance to you.
