Responsible for performing instructional and all related duties in the College’s CNA program, including coordinating course offerings at the main campus and educational centers. The coordinator assures all regulatory and accrediting requirements from the Illinois College Board and Illinois Department of Public Health are met in the training courses. Helps students understand materials by helping him/her develop effective learning strategies and study skills. May include basic technology assistance as related to the academic tasks.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to the Dean of Health Sciences who reports to the Vice President of Instructional Services, who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications for Position
Current Illinois Nursing License.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Professional Registered Nurse.
Successful completion of Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Train the Trainer course and ability to teach CNA courses
Commitment to community college mission and philosophy.
Possess a strong commitment to and ability to support student learning and the use of technology and innovation in the delivery of instruction, including the use of clinical simulation.
Excellent communication (oral and written), organization, planning, and presentation skills
Willingness and ability to teach students and work with entire College community in an effective and positive manner.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
2 years community college pre-licensure teaching experience in an approved IDPH CNA course.
Understanding of Canvas LMS software
Essential Functions
Coordinate CNA class offerings each semester to meet the needs of students in the college district.
Prepare, update, and approve syllabi for all CNA courses, coordinating with all instructors.
Coordinate clinical laboratory and clinical agency schedules to assure students participate in mandated number of clinical learning hours.
Review instructor schedules to assure they meet IDPH hour requirements and give recommendation to instructors as needed.
Advise and counsel students.
Prepare reports as required.
Perform assessment of student learning and participate in College-wide assessment program.
Assist in recruiting new instructors for CNA courses.
Teach up to twelve (12) credit hours per semester, no more than (24) credit hours per academic year.
Orient and mentor new instructors regarding duties required to teach the CNA course.
Provide instruction to all CNA instructors (both college-employed and dual credit) regarding new IDPH processes.
Monitor supplies/equipment and order new as required to properly educate students.
Submit all IDPH required paperwork and assure other instructors submit as required.
Implement new processes that IDPH requires: Such as fingerprint background checks.
Provide recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences for annual update of student handbooks, policies and procedures, to improve CNA courses, and budget change requests.
Participation at college events and activities throughout the year (example: graduation) is an expectation of this position. Further, College personnel are encouraged, as a member of the KC family, to support the many organizations within the institution serving our students and the district.
Maintain attendance and grade records and provide these records for review as requested.
Participate in professional development activities both on campus and off-campus.
Promote an educational environment that recognizes and values diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of academic excellence.
Keep abreast of current trends, technologies and information in subject area.
Plan and implement a program of communication and recruitment with potential interested students in the specific teaching area or vocational program.
Assist in maintaining an active program advisory committee.
Complete dual credit visits for CNA, Medical Terminology, and Health Occupation courses.
Work closely with community groups and school districts to develop partnerships and growth opportunities.
Work closely with business and industry to develop partnerships and to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of business and industry.
Other Functions
Provide input to the Dean in the budget process.
Actively participate in departmental program review.
Assist the appropriate College staff in the dissemination of information dealing with Kaskaskia programs and activities for students and the community.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences.

Position will be expected to work as part of the Nursing Department team with a minimum amount of supervision. Will provide supervision to part-time instructors. Supervision and providing leadership to student in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. Consultation as needed is available with the Dean.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties will be performed in either a classroom, laboratory, or internship/clinical setting with frequent distractions and interruptions. Travel within the College district, as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

VACATION LEAVE 1.83 days per month, for a total of 22 days per fiscal year. For grant-funded employees, vacation time must be used in the year that it is earned.
