Kaskaskia College is pleased to announce that the college has received the Military Friendly® School designation by Victory Media. The military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data- driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities. It is the ninth year KC has earned the Military Friendly designation.
Carrie Hancock, Coordinator of Veterans’ Services and Financial Aid Advisor for Kaskaskia College says of the honor, ““It is an honor to be named a “Military Friendly” school by Victory Media. Kaskaskia College is committed to the success of our military and veteran students. This designation reflects the programs and support that are provided for our military community and those dedicated to make them prosperous. However, without our veteran and military students that recognition would not be possible. Kaskaskia College is very grateful to our veterans and military families and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them every day.”
Over the past couple of years the Veteran/Active Military community have become more involved in the campus community as well as the communities in our community college district. Kaskaskia College has over 80 Veterans/Active Military students that are using educational benefits. Many of these students are also part of the KC Veteran’s Club, which serves as a Student Ambassador for the Wounded Warrior Project as well as a chapter of the Student Veterans of America.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, and Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Kaskaskia College President George Evans says, “We are very humbled to once again be recognized as a Military Friendly School. We at Kaskaskia College do not take for granted the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform have undertaken in their lives to protect this great nation. We are and always will be committed to the men and women in uniform. We do not know them all, but we owe them all. Additionally, we must recognize our Veterans Service Coordinator Carrie Hancock, as she is very hands on with all of our returning veterans and active duty military personnel and she works with them to ensure that their transition to civilian life and the education world is as seamless as possible. She is truly an asset to this school.”
