Beauty and Technology: KC Cosmetology Spring Semester Continues Uninterrupted

May 14, 2020

Kaskaskia College is proud to say that students in the Cosmetology Program have not missed a beat when it comes to progressing their education in the beauty industry.

KC Director of the Cosmetology Program, Chris Browne, says “Our students have stayed up-to-date on the theory of cosmetology through an online program that coincides with the state-required curriculum requirements. They have been learning about anatomy, business, disorders and diseases commonly seen in the salon and principles of hair design.  Our students have been creating interactive projects centered around hair color, salon branding and resume creation.  They have also created salon websites and undergone a professional interview”.

The Kaskaskia College Cosmetology students have also had their hands in hair during this time. Collectively they have completed over 150 hands-on projects which has developed their techniques and salon speed. Browne adds, “Our students also took advantage of free professional certifications while being away from campus. All together our students have earned over 50 certifications in topics of children's haircutting, COVID-19 sanitation guidelines, hair color techniques and much more”.

The faculty of the Cosmetology department has been working hard to create excitement in their new learning environment by hosting Zoom discussions. This has also maintained a sense of community by connecting students with their teachers.  Browne says, “As we head into the end of the Spring semester and look forward to the Summer term our main goal has been to keep our students focused on their final goal - a successful job in the beauty industry”.

The summer term at Kaskaskia begins June 1 with fall starting August 17.  If you are interested in enrolling in the summer or fall semester, please contact Kelli Malone at
