The Regional Task Force for Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education meeting was held on the campus of Kaskaskia College on November 22. Representatives from Kaskaskia College, Rend Lake College (RLC), Southeastern Illinois College (SIC), Sexual Assault & Family Emergencies (SAFE), and Marion County Victim’s Advocate were present.
The purpose of the meeting was to collaborate and share best practices to continually improve the safety of our college campuses for all students and employees. Title IX coordinators from each college as well as student services representatives were present at the meeting. The group discussed current practices on each college campus and heard from SAFE Advocates regarding available community resources for students. SIC Dean, Chad Flannery, provided information regarding upcoming legislative changes related to mental health and Title IX laws.
The group also discussed meeting educational requirements for students and staff and how they can cooperate to offer joint education covering sexual assault awareness for college students and staff. A next meeting of the Regional Task Force is being planned for spring.
