Kaskaskia College Announces Kick Programming For July at Vandalia Campus

The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College would like to announce the schedule for KICK classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus located at 2310 West Fillmore in Vandalia.

Fire & Emergency Safety - Students in this class will tour the fire and police stations and meet real firemen and police officers. They will sit in a firetruck and work the fire hose!  In addition, the younger students will talk to “Pluggie” the fire hydrant robot.  They will also sit in a police car and talk about what to do and what not to do in an emergency as well as check out the equipment on a policemen’s belt. Talking about gun safety and how to be alert to dangerous situations at home and in public will also be covered. The older students will see the older firetrucks that are being restored in the garage as well as go through the training maze.  They will also tour the city jail, learn about emergency safety and observe laser training.  The older students will also learn about training required to become a police officer to serve and protect their town!  This class will be Monday, July 8, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through 6th grades.  The cost is $5.00 and the registration number CKICK-5022-VA01D.

Repurposed Art – Students will make a work of art using “lost and found” or recyclable items such as bottle caps, beads, stray one-of-a-kind buttons, yarn, thread, magazine pictures, and old newspaper.  Other things you may want to bring include old photos, game pieces, favorite snack wrappers, or anything else you think could be used in a work of art. This class is Monday, July 8, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  This class is for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades and the cost is $5.00. The registration number is CKICK-5017-VA01D.

Cupcake Decorating - This fun and creative class will teach students how to add color to frosting and use the tools of the trade to make a beautiful treat.  Each student will decorate cupcakes to take home and enjoy!  This is a messy class so dress appropriately.  The class will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for students in grades 5-8.  Cost is $10.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5313-VA01D.

Fun Spanish – Students will learn the basics of the Spanish language in a fun way! This class will be Tuesday and Thursday, July 9 and 11, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Cost for this course is $15.00 and the registration number is  CKICK-5175-VA01D.

Balloon Art - In this class, students will learn to make balloon animals.  Also included will be   balloon safety, twisting cool creatures, hats and more!  This class will be July 10, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. for students in grades 3-8.  Cost of this class is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5020-VA01D.

Beading and Bling – Students will learn about making beads using magazine pictures as they create a necklace using your paper beads and jewelry beads for bling.  If you have a favorite bead necklace that broke, bring those beads to add to your necklace. This class will be Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through 8th grades.  The cost is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5222-VA01D.

Music Fun - Students will explore the world of music through their voices, movement and a variety of instruments.  This class will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through third grade.  Cost for this course is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5281-VA01D.

Beginning Sign Language - Through teacher-pupil application and demonstrations, students will learn basic sign language using the S.E.E., signing exact English program.  The class will be Monday and Wednesday, July 15 and 17, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for students in grades 1-8th. Cost for the class is $15.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5160-VA01D.

Crafts - Using yarn, glue, and a large balloon, students will create a lamp shade and wire frame.  If time allows, students will also make frames for pictures and memorabilia using the spirelli method of weaving thread on the edges of paper.  This class will be Tuesday and Thursday, July 16 and 18, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. for students in grades 4-8.  Cost is $10.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5278-VA01D.

Crafts - This class will include a variety of fun and creative artistic projects. Bring you creativity and imagination and you will have some fun.  This class will be Tuesday and Thursday, July 16 and 18, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through third grade.  Cost is $10.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5278-VA02D.

Paper Airplanes - Using paper and folding techniques, students will make a variety of airplanes that will be tested before you leave the class.  Have fun while you learn which designs fly best – or not at all.  This class will be Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for students in grades 3-8.  Cost is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5144-VA01D.

Dinosaurs - Join us for this unique, prehistoric learning adventure that allows kids the opportunity to explore the world of dinosaurs, fossils and minerals. The instructor will take you through an exciting adventure of prehistoric time.  This class will be July 17, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.  The class is for students in Kindergarten through fifth grades.  Cost is $7.50 and the registration number is CKICK-5292-VA01D.

Turtles and Lizards – Students will learn all about turtles and lizards and what type of environment they live in, what they eat and other interesting things about their habitat. Students will also learn to care for their reptile pets.  This class will be Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades.  Cost is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5147-VA01D.

All About Birds and Bird Houses – Students will learn about birds, including their habitat, young and song, and then craft a birdhouse from a gallon jug using paint or permanent markers, and dowels.  This class will be Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades.  Cost is $7.50 and the registration number is CKICK-5008-VA01D.

Drawing - Students will learn to develop their skills and techniques that make drawing fun as they are led through an exploration of basic drawing principles and different ideas. This class will be Monday and Wednesday, July 22 and 24, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades. Cost for this course is $15.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5171-VA02D.

Tye Dye – Students are asked to bring their own white T-shirt and pick a design to create unique wearable art.  Wear old clothes as this class can be very messy.  Shirt should be 100% cotton for best results. This class is Monday and Tuesday, July 22 and 23, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  The class is for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades and the cost is $15.00.  The registration number is CKICK-5210-VA02D.

Painting – Students will learn to use different brushes and color to paint a masterpiece. The class will be Tuesday and Thursday, July 23 and 25, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  This course is for students in grades 1-8 and the cost is $15.00.  The registration number is CKICK-5420-VA02D.

Stars and Constellations – Students will learn about stars and constellations as they are taught to identify more than the “Big Dipper”! Students will also create a fun constellation craft project! This class is Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through eighth grades.  Cost is $5.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5140-VA01D.
