Kaskaskia College Announces June Kick Programming For Nashville Education Center

The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for June KICK (Kids in College at Kaskaskia) classes to be offered at the new Nashville Education Center located at 17869 Exchange Avenue in Nashville. 

Let’s Get Physical! (Science) - In this class students will take a look at the physical aspect of science, focusing on forces, motion, energy transfer and properties of matter. Hands-on activities and exciting experiments will keep the students engaged and wanting to learn more!  The class will be Tuesday and Thursday, June 4 and 6, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through fifth grades.  Cost is $25.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5319-NS01D.

Get a Life! (Science) - In this class, students will take a look at the life around them and determine what it takes to be a living organism.  Students will learn that every plant and animal has special parts and behaviors that help them grow and meet their needs, gain practical experience in identifying animals, and explore their senses and consider how the information we process helps us understand and react to our environment.  The class will be Tuesday and Thursday, June 11 and 13, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through fifth grades.  The cost is $25.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5319-NS02D.

Sewing a Tote Bag - During this class, students will make a tote bag. This class is for experienced beginner sewers.  The students will need to be comfortable with a sewing machine, know how to thread it and wind bobbins.  They will also need to know how to cut out a pattern with scissors or a rotary cutter. Students will need to bring a portable sewing machine to class, and they will be given a list of supplies needed to complete the tote bag project. The class is Wednesday, June 12, 2019 for students ages 8 years and older.  The cost is $15.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5142-NS01D.

 

The World Around Us! (Science) - In this class, students will investigate the properties of Earth!  Students will develop the idea that the sun, moon and stars change position in the sky in ways that are fun to watch and predict.  Students will also develop an appreciation for the processes that shape the earth's surface!  This class will be Tuesday and Thursday, June 18 and 20, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for students in Kindergarten through fifth grades.  Cost for the class is $25.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5319-NS03D.

Drawing – Drawing is a fundamental activity that has applications in fields ranging from industrial and engineering to architecture and design. This class teaches the basics of drawing as well as ways to keep improving beyond the class. The class will be Monday through Thursday, June 24 – 27, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for students in grades 1 - 4.  Cost is $40.00 and students are asked to bring a 9x12 sketch pad, soft pencils and an eraser to class!  The registration number is CKICK-5171-NS01D.

Watercolor Paints - In this class students will be introduced to many uses of watercolor paint. They will learn about taking care of art supplies, color mixing, landscape painting, creating imaginary scenes, composing a finished artwork and more.  Kids are encouraged to bring an oversized shirt or apron to wear over their clothes. This class will be Monday through Thursday, June 24 – 27, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for students in grades 5-8.  Cost is $45.00 and the registration number is CKICK-5016-NS01D.
