The Effingham Daily News, a growing six-day paper in central Illinois, has an immediate opening for a photojournalist who also has the ability to write stories as needed. The successful candidate will be the only photographer in an 11-person newsroom. This is a fantastic opportunity for a photojournalist to sharpen his or her skills at a community newspaper in a Midwestern farming town. Our readers are passionate about their paper and fanatic about high school basketball. The photographer will enjoy a brand-new photo/video workstation with Adobe Creative Suite and Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Nights, weekends, holidays and some split shifts are part of the gig. The Daily News is part of CNHI and offers competitive wages and benefits in a town with a very low cost of living. Candidates must have no more than two motor-vehicle moving violations in the past 24
months. A bachelor's degree is preferred. Recent grads are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be willing to come to Effingham for an interview. Preference will be given to regional candidates who can start quickly. We also prefer candidates with their own professional-grade DSLR and complementary equipment. To apply, send a link of your online portfolio, a one-page PDF resume, a two-paragraph statement of what community journalism means to you and your salary expectations to managing editor Matt Saxton at firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline for submissions is Jan. 15.
