The 2013-14 Kaskaskia College Season of Entertainment Guest Artist and Speaker Series officially kicks off on Friday, November 1st as KC welcomes Scrap-Arts-Music to the Jane Knight Auditorium.
Created by percussion virtuoso Gregory Kozak and designer muse Justine Murdy, and joined by Spencer Cole, Christa Mercey, Greg Samek and Malcolm Shoolbraid, SCRAP ARTS MUSIC excites the senses with intricate rhythms, raw energy, athletic choreography and 150 of the most beautifully inventive instruments on stage today. Based in Montreal, Canada, SCRAP ARTS MUSIC transcends language, culture and age and offers a highly physical, wildly theatrical and thoroughly entertaining pop percussion experience. What is SCRAP ARTS MUSIC? Well, they’re pretty much precisely what their name implies. The ensemble created their own percussion instruments out of what most of us would describe as scrap metal and then allow the characteristics of those instruments to inspire the creation of their music. “They simply have some of the most unique sounds you will hear anywhere,” said Season Co-Chair Mike Loomis. “SCRAP ARTS MUSIC is definitely something you have to experience live.”
Scrap Arts Music was honored to perform not once but twice during the 2010 Winter Olympics. They were flown in from a tour of the northeastern USA to perform during the first Victory Ceremonies, flown back to New England to resume the tour, then flown back a second time to be the final act of the 2010 Winter Olympic Closing Ceremonies.
Described by reviewers as a “rhythmic circus” the ensemble’s performance at KC is part of their US Tour.
Tickets are on sale at $21 for adults and $10 for youths 18 and younger.
