Dr. Shelvy Haywood Keglar

Dr. Shelvy Haywood Keglar attended Kaskaskia College from 1966 – 1969 and was a member of the Blue Devil Basketball Team. As a freshman, he averaged 16 points per game and was named All-Conference. He helped lead the team to the state finals where the team finished third. He was named as a captain during his freshman year and led the team in assisting and scoring. His sophomore season, Keglar was again named captain and led the team in scoring, rebounding, and assist. He was named All-Conference and All-State and was the only player selected from Southern Illinois. He helped lead the team to the state finals where they finished fourth.
From Kaskaskia College, Dr. Keglar went on to captain the team at Arkansas State University where he helped in the turnaround of the basketball program. He later served as freshman coach and graduate assistant at Arkansas State before being inducted into the military where he served as the player coach of the Fort Sam Houston Rangers for two years and was selected to the All-Army team. Dr. Keglar was invited to pro tryouts with the San Antonio Spurs in 1972 and with the Indiana Pacers in 1975.
