Adam Esses

Adam Esses is beginning his first season as the Head Coach of the Blue Angels Basketball Program. Esses is taking over a program that went 27-5 in 2013-14 and second in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. Returning from that year’s squad is NJCAA Third Team All-American guard Kierra Graves who was 4th in the nation in scoring last season. Esses comes to Kaskaskia from Fayette, IA where he was the assistant women’s basketball coach at NCAA Division II Upper Iowa University for four seasons. In his time as assistant at UIU, Esses served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and in his second year helped the Peacocks to their best season since 2007-08. Esses helped recruit two All Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) players, two All NSIC Defensive Team players, and two All NSIC Freshman Team players with one being named Freshman of the Year. In 2013-14, Upper Iowa University ranked #1 in the nation for all divisions for team Grade Point Average at 3.801. Prior to Upper Iowa University, Esses was the Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant Coach at NCAA Division II University of Nebraska-Kearney. Esses helped guide the Lopers program to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008-09 with a team that went 20-10 which won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference East Division Title. Esses started his coaching career as a student assistant coach with the men’s basketball at his alma mater Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. While at Bethany, Esses worked his way up to become the head Junior Varsity in his senior year for the Swedes. Esses has earned Master’s of Science and Edcation in Mathematics/Science Teaching from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Secondary Math Education from Bethany College (KS). Esses resides in Centralia.
 

Summar Maines
Assistant Coach
Summar Maines is a 2012 Centralia Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. Maines saw 106 wins as a four-year starter for the Centralia High School Annie's basketball program (1992, '93, '94, '95). Undefeated South Seven Conference titles all four seasons. Maines was named First Team All-Conference each of her four years and was conference MVP for 1995. The 1993 and 1994 teams each made IHSA class AA elite eight appearances winning 29 games each season. She was first team All-State selection by the Chicago Tribune. After her senior year Maines played in the 1995 IBCA and Southern Illinois Lions club all-star games. Summar received a four-year basketball scholarship to Indiana University where she became a starter for the 1997-1998 season which ended with a 21-12 record. In 1998, Maines participated in the National Invitational Tournament making it to the third round. Maines was a member of the Big Ten All Star Team which played a tour in Germany in 1998. Maines has also coached an AAU team the summer of 2012 through the Community Youth Center. Head Women’s Basketball Coach Adam Esses says, “I am excited to have Summar join our Blue Angel family.
