TO THE STUDENT:
|
| The Career Options Pages are intended to be used as a guide as you pursue
a degree or certificate in your chosen field. References outlining a variety
of career choices help you evaluate the employment opportunities that
exist in the Kaskaskia College District. |
CAREER PLANNING BEGINS WITH YOUR DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE FROM
KASKASKIA COLLEGE:
|
|
There are many factors that influence your career decisions and the
outcomes of those decisions. Academic counselors help students determine
the correct courses designed to help you meet your goals. Career planning
and assessment software is available in the Career Center to help those
who are undecided in their future career plans to narrow a focus. Many
factors including age, family, interests, hobbies, life goals, and past
work experiences all help shape your future career choices. |
IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE INFORMED CHOICES:
|
| When planning for transfer credit, occupational certification, or
other choices that will effect your future, it is necessary to have as
much information as necessary to make the correct class choices. Be honest
with yourself about your desires and interests. Many people today will
change occupations at least five times in their lifetimes. Many people
enter jobs that do not directly relate to undergraduate studies. Many
students change their major at least four times before making a final
decision. All of these changes are marks of personal growth. Let the counselors
help you make your decision based on as much knowledge as possible about
your future goals. |
WORKPLACE READINESS:
|
|
Becoming workplace ready is as much about personal skills as it is about
majors of study. Many employers today look for "transferable skills" such
as communication, writing, and team-building skills. However, education
is a valuable investment at any time in your life. Life-long learners
are more employable based on their desire to learn new concepts and tasks,
their academic achievement, and their past work history including volunteer
work and cooperative education. Whatever your current goal, keep in mind
that Kaskaskia College can help you succeed in educationally developing
that goal and preparing you for the challenge of future goals.
