Do you know someone who wants to read?

The Reading Link Program of the Kaskaskia College Adult Education and Literacy Department provides free literacy and pre-GED tutorial services to adult learners of the college district who have inadequate educational skills. Utilizing trained volunteers as tutors, the services of The Reading Link equip adult learners with the tools necessary to begin building pathways that lead them to fulfilling their education, employment, and career goals.

By partnering with the district's public libraries and through the service coordination efforts of the program’s County Coordinators, The Reading Link has provided one-to-one and group tutoring services to eligible adult learners since 1985. Services are designed to assist adult learners, who are at least 17 years of age and not enrolled in school, to increase their skills in reading, writing, math, and/or the English language. By using literacy materials available for distribution at the district’s public libraries in addition to those associated with the department’s literacy and adult education classes, the program provides tutorial services that include the use of indirect and direct learning strategies, explicit instruction, and evidence-based reading instruction.
