Kaskaskia College is proud to announce that the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Program has been granted HVAC Excellence accreditation. The program has now received a 6-year national accreditation which is the highest that can be attained.
Accreditation from HVAC Excellence provides a number of benefits for program graduates. It assures employers that KC’s graduates have received the best training in residential, and commercial heating and cooling and refrigeration equipment, and are ready to enter the workforce. Currently the job market for HVAC mechanics and installers is very active with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting job growth at more than 14% over the next ten years, with a median income of $45,000. The accreditation also helps graduates in transferring credits if they choose to further their education beyond KC.
George Evans, Dean of Career and Technical Education says, “This approval is the final step in the HVAC Excellence approval process. Kaskaskia College is now officially accredited for the next six years through HVAC Excellence, the gold standard of the HVAC industry. This certification ensures that the program, led by Mark Kohnen, is meeting the highest of industry standards, and is training tomorrows HVAC technicians with the best equipment and knowledge possible. Our HVAC graduates will be highly marketable to gain employment within the HVAC industry once they complete there program of study, and the HVAC Excellence seal of approval will only make them that much more desirable as an employee.”
HVAC Excellence is an independent, third party review of higher education heating and cooling programs. Accreditation from this organization validates that a HVAC program is meeting established standards of excellence in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Accreditation standards require a thorough examination of: mission of program, administrational responsibilities, finances and funds, student services, instruction design and program elements, physical facilities, equipment and tools, cooperative training and instructor qualifications.
KC Professor Mark Kohnen feels that “The Kaskaskia College HVAC Program has gone from a good program to a great program. Students can choose a 2 year Associate Degree in Applied Science or a 1-year Certificate in HVAC. The program at KC is striving to deliver the best training possible for students at a fraction of the cost of larger private colleges”.
Kohnen adds that equipment Manufacturers and tool companies have generously participated in making the KC HVAC Program great by making donations. The program has not only worked with local distributors in gaining equipment but also with national manufacturers and distributors that have made the program as current as it can be. He says, “student success is the top priority in our program and being nationally accredited by HVAC Excellence is a great way of making sure employers know that a student they hire has been through extensive training on many types of equipment”.
