“Meals for a Healthy Heart” Workshop Offered in Vandalia

The University of Illinois Extension Center, in partnership with Kaskaskia College, is offering a two-day “Meals for a Healthy Heart” Workshop on Monday and Wednesday evenings, June 23 & 25, from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Vandalia Campus.  The course number is COED-8091-VA01E.  All students pay a $20 registration fee.


Coronary heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of serious disability. This 2-part series focuses on increasing participant awareness of the risk factors of CHD; hypertension, high blood cholesterol, and other warning signs. It will focuses on heart healthy foods, menu planning, low sodium strategies,  healthy eating away from home, omega 3/fish oil, dietary fiber, antioxidants, a healthy pantry, etc. Activity levels and weight management information on keeping your heart in good condition, as well as food demonstrations, taste testing, and recipes are provided at each session.


Students may register through the Vandalia Campus by calling 283-1780 or the Office of Continuing /Community Education at Kaskaskia College at 545-3255.  Space is limited, so please register early.  All students must pre-register for this class.​
