Kirkland Makes Donation to Veterans Donation

Elvira Kirkland of Centralia has donated $1,000 towards the Veterans Tribute Project located on the main campus of Kaskaskia College.  Kirkland made the donation on behalf of the men in the Kirkland family who served in the armed forces.  Many of those men have their names listed on the first phase of the Tribute, which contains the names and branches of service of more than 25,000 men and women.

The Veterans Tribute at Kaskaskia College was designed to honor area veterans for their service.  The tribute features a Warriors’ Court centered by an American Eagle sculpture done by Mike Curtis of Idaho.  It also features the seals of the five branches of service and two of five planned walls which contain the veterans’ names.  Future work includes three additional walls which will add an additional 40,000 names to the Tribute site and an educational building.
